pursuit for achieving excellence in all the endeavours we undertake. We will lose sight of some of the most beautiful birds if the tree is felled besides limiting their habitation. It is seen that birds donot prefer all types of trees for engaging in activities, which best suits them. The drain is important, the road widening is pertinent but the tree is the fountain. What birds will lose one of its most frequented homes in the event of the tree being felled? The Blue throated Barbet,

have seen in parts of Guwahati where trees have been protected by constructing roads and pavements around it, similarly the concerned tree can be allowed to live despite the project. Many schemes have been implemented and efforts taken to preserve and enhance the greenery of the State in general and urban localities in particular. If, in the name of development we destroy nature it is akin to giving a bad name to development. We believe development best manifests when we take along nature in our

a threat to this tree. The tree is on the Navagiri Road at Chandmari, which leads to the Red Cross Hospital. It is adjacent to the boundary wall on the east from within the office campus of the department of Irrigation, Government of Assam. The drainage cum road widening project is progressing from the northern end of the Navagiri road and already a portion of the wall has been demolished and construction is underway. In all likely the tree will be uprooted because of the project. However, as we

the branches at different times of the day and year. Quite surprising as it remains because the tree is at the heart of the town with cacophonic sounds of vehicles, dust and pollution rendering the ambiance an antithesis to such unbelievable gathering of avian variety. A family of playful squirrels winding their way up and down among the branches in search of food is another incentive, worth enjoying, probably, even at the cost of anything worthy. Now a drain cum road widening project is posing

and likewise, the aroma of the ripe Jackfruits compels the pedestrian to curiously tilt his gaze at the Jackfruit tree. Hundreds of such trees dot the landscape of Guwahati. The senses are numbed at the sheer beauty of these colourful birds occupying

In one of the most cacophonous environment in downtown Guwahati is a matured, fully grown tree to the east of the Irrigation office campus. A Banyan tree and Jackfruit tree, well within the boundary wall are the two companions of the tree. The onlooker cannot help admiring the resplendent yellow flowers the tree adorns during spring-summer

I, NPK Iyer sincerely request you to allot sufficient funds to the government hospitals in Navi Mumbai in the forth coming budget and direct all local governments to increase the number of dental hospitals for the benefit of poor who find it difficult in getting their tooth removed (forget about going for treatment) through private dental clinic due to heavy fees when their tooth (or teeth) become unrestorable through tooth decay, periodontal disease or dental trauma.

1. All the hotels, guest houses and tourist information centers should have trained, multilingual and friendly staff. 2. Ironing out the logistics - having the network of tour guides, taxi drivers /rental car bookings all available at one place. 2. Brochures at the front desk/lobby highlighting key activities 3. Having fun activities for kids seems to generate increases interest from tourists on family vacation 4. Lastly and most importantly safety and convenience in commuting is critical.
