The Prime Minister shared a visionary approach to transform the development journey of our villages in the form of the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. The initiative calls upon MPs to select a village in their constituency and make it a Model Village by 2016. Furthermore, the number of model villages should increase as time progresses so that in a decade a large number of villages become Model Villages across India.

The rationale behind a landmark idea such as this is clear- India lives in the villages and India will only progress when our villages progress. Development of villages can happen best when everybody walks shoulder to shoulder and contributes towards the comprehensive development of the village. And who better than the local Members of Parliament to drive this change!

This specially created forum on MyGov invites out of the box ideas on how the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana can become the driving force in bringing a qualitative difference in our villages. Lets make the development of our villages a grand mass movement and together create a golden future for rural India.

Sir, how can we improve quality of villagers. We all know that villagers depend upon agriculture and it is open to all now that prices of farmers crops. It is now at half rate of previous year. If you govern us like this, then you know the fact of Farmer's suicide cases. It will start in Haryana too. So have a look into it. Don't kill farmers. They elect BJP with a new hope not for all this. I am a Supporter of MODI ji only.. Plz plz plz do forward our concern for a healthy village campaign.

Most villages do not have toilets and one that have public toilets, water facility is not present thus making the toilet itself a health hazard. When toilets are built, there should be facility for provision of water in the toilet. This will help reduce atrocities on women also besides giving a healthy atmosphere to the village. Village Tanks need to be redug under MNREGA with a boundary wall to prevent encroachment.

Under the Environment development activity 5.1, households who do not have any agricultural land can be encouraged to employ permaculture in their homesteads. Planting of trees on the canal bunds must be carried out with caution as the roots of the trees too close to the canals can damage the canal sides and bottom.

Under the activity 4.1 of economic development through promoting agricultural livelihoods, intensive crop rotation can be encouraged to effectively carry out nutrient balancing in the soils. Vetiver grass can be used for watershed management by reducing soil erosion. A more concerted effort is required to wean the farmers away from the staples like wheat, rice and water consuming sugar cane and encourage them to grow other cereals, pulses and such crops which will help to reduce our import bill.

Under the clean villages’ activity (3.2) of SAGY, the practice of garbage segregation as followed in Pune can be replicated. All the households can segregate the garbage themselves into wet and dry and hand over separately to the garbage collector. The wet kitchen garbage can then be subjected to vermicomposting and utilized for agriculture in the village; and the dry garbage can be further segregated for recycling and burning. This can be practiced as well in towns and cities.

One more approach for achieving the objectives of SAGY could be to engage the NRIs from the selected villages to participate in the development by utilizing technology and other resources available to them. Their details can be ascertained at the time of base line survey.
