Though there have been significant gains in literacy rates, large gender, social and regional disparities in literacy levels persist. The gains in literacy levels are due to success of the adult education programmes and improvements in primary schooling. However, there is a further need to enhance the literacy levels of the socially marginalized groups and those living in rural areas through interventions of adult education programmes and open schooling systems. This theme seeks to elicit views on how we achieve faster progress in reducing the existing disparities in literacy levels.

Adult Literacy programmes are unable to reach the socially deprived sections due to their socio -economic conditions. Because they show much interest to go for work rather than to study. And also they feel that these literary may not improve their life style.It is little bit difficult to bring awareness in the adults belongs to slums rather than rural areas.Adult education should be encouraged by conducting classes to them in the time they can afford.

before starting adult literacy programme awareness is necessary.this can be achieved with. the heip of school childern.national open school is a good option but number of schools and awareness about it is very less.that should be improved.WOMEN education should be empowered by implementing various schemes.specially girls eduction in rural area shouid be empowered

Even we are focussing on Universalization of elementary education for decades, either not achieved the target which leads to the Illiterate adults do not show interest in adult literacy programmes because they feel that importance of those programs cannot provide even minimum employment and the literacy programmes conducted in a time that is not convenient to them. Assurance may not give about their better future.The education system in rural areas is less when compared to urban areas.

The education system in rural areas is less when compared to urban areas. So there is need to start for adult education centers in rural areas. The curriculum should be according to the local needs of the people . The curriculum of adult education should be well designed so that it would help them not only their lively hood but also for their future life.

Every teacher working with the central Government Schools like Kendriya Vedhalyas, must serve in rural areas for a fixed amount of time. His/Her expenses must be borne by the Government. Facilities like sports equipment, medical first aid and proper and clean toilets must be introduced in these schools. Moreover, the village sarpanch must be given the responsibility of ensuring that the schools run regularly. Finally, the schools must be protected by walls and security.

गामीण साक्षरता काे तेज करने के िलए पाइवेट परीक्षाए कक्षा 5 तथा 8 से शुरु की जाए। SC, ST बाहुल्य क्षेत्राें में साक्षारता शिविराें का अायाेजन पाैण्ा शिक्षा पुनः संचालन जेंडर गैप कम करने के िलए नए पंचायत सतर पर अावश्यक बैठके दी जानी चाहिए।
